This term during reading, we were working on navigating novels. We choose a book buddy to act as a critical friend. Shakaia and I read a novel called "A Winters Day In 1939". The activity we choose to work on was feedback. While reading the novel we had to think of 3 questions we could ask our book buddy so we could help them make a stronger connection to the book. Our questions would challenge them to use the evidence in the text to explain their thinking. We then gave them feedback and feed forward.
I am a Year 8 student at Panmure Bridge School in Auckland, NZ. I am in Learning Space 2 and my teachers are Mrs Anderson and Ms Kirkpatrick.

Tamaki Overdrive
Tamaki overdrive is a great website to explore new books and read them online. Its great since you get to choose which subject, collections and level you would like. You also get to listen to audio books instantly in your browser. What I like about this is that you get to choose more than 4 books. I found this book in the fiction sections and this book is called "Mr Stink" and is written by David Walliams.

Why Is It So Important To Keep Oral Storytelling Alive?
Maori storytelling is important today because it can pass onto generations. They will know the value of their culture while keeping the Maori language alive.
Mia and I have worked collaboratively to make this 25 word summary about, why it's so important to keep oral storytelling alive? We listened to 3 different explanations in Te Reo in subtitles. We had learning conversations to why it is so important. Using 6 most important words to make this summary, we thought it was so important to pass the oral storytelling onto the next generation so they will know the value of the culture/language alive.

Explaining Movie
This week for reading, Fifita, Mia, Nazella and I made an explaining movie about landfills in New Zealand. This movie explained how long rubbish takes to biodegrade. This was very interesting because I learnt many new facts. We should be careful of what we throw in landfills because we will end up with large unwanted polluted landfills in New Zealand. I really enjoyed making this movie about landfills.

Summary
Since this week is Samoan language week, we watched a YouTube clip that had a speech about keeping the traditional Samoan Culture alive and the respectful ways of the dances. Mia and I worked collaboratively to summaries the video and selected 20 important words and from there we picked 6 very important words. Using those 6 words we created a summary based on the YouTube clip. I think summarizing is a very important skill to have because it can help you with many different reading tasks like for an example, my previous reading task was based on a reading book that my group had to read and we also summarized the main idea.
