Scanning for information

Scanning for Information

L.I. Develop our research skills
Develop reading techniques for finding information in a text

Once you have found the right book or website by scanning, you need to skim to find the best, most relevant information.

  • Read the first paragraph or introduction.
  • Read the topic sentences in the other paragraphs.  (this is usually the first sentence)
  • Look at the images, do they match what you are looking for.
  • Read the conclusion.
  • Decide if the resource is useful enough to read in full.

Skim read this article.

Look up the meaning of these terms, then write a definition IN YOUR OWN WORDS.

aqueduct - A kind of bridge that makes water flow
delta - Anything that is triangle like the Greek capital Delta is an triangle

This is my scanning for information document and I had to look up the definitions and write them in my own words.
