Athletics Day

Today was the PBS athletics day. The school was split into four groups, red, green, yellow, and blue. There were 9 rotation and sprints at the end. I was in the red team with A.J., Calvin, Shannon and Sa Kae. The year 8's first rotation was rob the nest. We were put into our colored team year groups and had to steal the balls from other groups. This was a tiring game but the team green managed to win this. Our next rotation was long jump, we all struggled but we all won. We then had different rotations that concluded of shot put, basketball, sponge and water game, discus, lifesaver, egg and spoon, and dance and relax station. This was a fun day and then we had our sprints. I came 3rd out of the year 8 girls. I would like to thank some Tamaki College students that have helped us and Mr Ogilvie for setting up this event.

We got to see these firefighters train and many more. We learnt how they help people get out of cars and taught us how to keep safe around fires. They are also first responders and they help those who have heart attacks and more. This was a very enjoyable visit and we learnt how to keep safe and how they help our community.

Navigating Novels - Feedback

This term during reading, we were working on navigating novels. We choose a book buddy to act as a critical friend. Shakaia and I read a novel called "A Winters Day In 1939". The activity we choose to work on was feedback. While reading the novel we had to think of 3 questions we could ask our book buddy so we could help them make a stronger connection to the book. Our questions would challenge them to use the evidence in the text to explain their thinking. We then gave them feedback and feed forward.

Oral Hygiene

This week LS2, have been working on our oral hygiene/oral health. We created a DLO that tells others how and why they should look after their teeth. We used our smart searching skills to remind everyone in our school why looking after our teeth is so important. We included facts explaining the consequences if you don't look after your teeth. Mia, Shakaia, and I added some information about "gingivitis, gums, oral hygiene, cavity's, plague, and tooth decays. This is how we share a community challenge and we had fun creating different DLO's.
