Summer Learning Journey - Bonus Activity

For this bonus activity, I had to write a letter to a family member or a friend about why you want to go to the country you choose. This is my letter I wrote: 

Dear Dad, 

I am going to Chile to learn many new things like their language and to try different foods. When I come back I will show the amazing pictures I took of the worlds longest beach and the worlds oldest mummy. I will also teach you Chile's language and hopefully we can go there sometime together. I will be gone for 2 - 5 weeks and I will miss you the most. Love, from Zahra.

Summer Learning Journey - Facts about Chile

For this second activity, what I had to do was find three facts about Chile. I wasn't allowed to include the facts in the world map.
Fact One: Chile has the worlds biggest swimming pool which is a length of 1000 yards.
Fact Two: Chile has the worlds oldest mummy.
Fact Three: Chile has 17.62 million people.

Summer Learning Journey

For this summer learning journey, the activity was to choose a country that I would like to visit and give 2 or more reasons why we choose that country. I choose Chile because it is the worlds narrowest country stretching along South America. My second reason is because it has the worlds oldest mummy and I have never seen a mummy.  

2016 LS2 Collage

 

This reflection is based around LS2's 2016 learning journey. This collage lets you see through our eyes what we have been up to this year. There are images of us collaborating working hard and some of our most favorite times at school.

The Labyrinth

This week were were focusing on a film, The Labyrinth. This is a DLO that I have created today. It has pictures of the movie also some of the parts. The Labyrinth was very interesting as it had parts of different fantasy movies in this film. 

Tahuna Torea StoryBoard That

This is my Storyboard That, which I have created with Zeba, Nazella and myself. We had to create a step by step Storyboard which explained what happened that day. We had much fun and had a great time. 

Tahuna Torea

 Yesterday Afternoon, the seniors of PBS went to Tahuna Torea. This is my groups DLO about Tahuna Torea. Zeba, Nazella and I were working very collaborativly to make this Prezi.com. We  learnt many things and had a great time there. We were put into 3 groups to go around and explore Tahuna Torea. We got to look at the wetland where the birds and Godwits migrate from and where they also rest. We also played on the park and had a bush walk. It was a very warm day but the seniors have lots of fun. 

My Day At Tamaki College - Collage

On Friday LS2 spent the whole day at Tamaki College with Mr. Dunn. We really enjoyed this session because we learned about rockets and the tested out our straw rockets. This is my DLO collage that has all of the pictures of the fantastic day we spent at Tamaki College. 

Multimodel Reading

This week we started our Multi model ( < link) reading task focusing on Godwits. We were put into 4 groups which were R, E, A, D, my group was A. In my group, there was Pote, Thomas, Victoria, Nesi, Charlize, Zahn, Mahdia, Calvin, Oh Hsen, C.J, Afu and I. Our first task working collaboratively was to complete our question matrix. After completing our question matrix we relied on our prior knowledge by using no internet or any books. Using our prior knowledge we wrote down how people traveled today, 30 years ago and 100 years ago. 

Tamaki College - Rockets

Last week, on Friday we went to Tamaki College to learn about rockets. In this DLO I have added some information about rockets and our score for our straw rockets. We spent the whole day with Mr. Dunn. LS2 really enjoyed this session and recapped many things we remembered. After we made straw rockets  it was interesting seeing how far they could go. It was really awesome since we made some papered rockets and shoot them up in the sky.  

Silver Confidence Award - Interview a Person

Today I Interviewed Miss Linda. I have decided to complete one of my silver respect awards which was to interview a person about their job. It was fun talking to Miss Linda and I was curious to find out about her teaching life. 

Silver Respect Care Award - Create a Collage Showcasing PBS

Today I decided to create a collage showcasing life at PBS. This activity was from the silver care award. I added images of the learning night, book character day, rhythm interactive, athletics day and many more. 

Silver Respect Award - Interview a Person in Uniform

Today I happen to complete one of my silver Respect award. I chose to make a DLO of the police and what type of jobs they do.Constable Cyrus came to our school to teach us about many things about the police and what they do. I also wrote down why their roles are important to us New Zealand. The police force interests me because they help many people. 

Hunderwasser Artwork

This week we have been making some Hunderwasser artwork. At first we looked up Hunderwasser to find 8 or more facts about him. Then we made a google document listing facts about Hunderwasser. Ls2 was given 1 sheet of A3 paper and a A2 sheet of cardboard to lean on. We first had to form a layout of 3 parts on the paper with a pencil lightly. We then drew in some onion domes and some lollipop trees. After we made a row of houses that were 3d and 2d. We also tried to draw some hidden faces into the contour lined of our art. Once we finished we went over the pencil lines with vivid. Then we practiced our shading with oil pastels. We also used cool colors and warm colors. After shading we started off with the background colors. We at least had to have 3 or more shaded parts of our art. 

Athletics Day

Today, we had the Panmure Bridge School Athletics day. We were really lucky because we had some Tamaki Collage Students to help us with the activities. In our year groups we were split up into 3 different teams to collaborate and encourage others. I was working with Mishaan, Sa Kae, Cj, Sylis, Daniel and Lyndon. We first had a game of Shoot Out, we had to see which team was the best at shooting the balls. We then moved onto a Sponge relay, Long jump, and Shot put. I think my team worked very collaboratively because my team won most games. The weather was not the best, since we all got wet but we did enjoy our day very much.  

Hockey Kiwisport - Session 2

Yesterday was our second session of hockey. with our coach Carly. To start of the lesson we played a warm up game of cats and dogs. We then played a game of switch. What we had to do was switch the ball to the same colored stick. Then we played a game of Shark. In this game we had to defend our ball, and knock other peoples balls to the side line. This game was quite hard because we had to defend our ball the same time we knocked other peoples balls. Once we learned all of our skills while played the games, we had team game. We were split into 2 teams and had a hockey game. Our coach Carly called a number and we had to go in teams of the number she called( for example if Carly called out the number 2, only 2 people would play. ) It was really fun and at the end we went as a whole team and played. 

Compare and Contrast

Today for inquiry, we have been focusing on creating a comparing and contrasting chart. We had to compare and contrast the 2 aviators that we created a timeline for. We put facts in the chart about Amy Johnson and Jean Batten. 

Amy Johnson Timeline

This week for inquiry, we have been focusing on Aviators. We have created a timeline based on a aviator of our choice. The Aviator I choose was Amy Johnson. We had to list down interesting life moments of Amy Johnson. I created a timeline on a site called popplet.com. I also added images and resources to link with the information I had. 

Jean Batten Time Line

For this weeks Inquiry, I have been focusing on Jean Batten. My task today was to create a timeline based on Jean Batten. I worked collaboratively with Shannon, my partner to make a timeline. If you are interested in this site click here.

Hockey Session 1

Today we had our first lesson of hockey. To start of our lesson we played a small game of octopus. We then learned how to grip our stick and use the ball. We had to hold the colored part of the stick and the top of the leather on the stick. After we had a game of traffic lights. Then we learnt how to dribble our ball. Our Coaches called our a traffic light color and we had to go to the speed they said. After we juggled the ball on our stick and see how juggled the ball, the most. After we learnt all of our skills we need for hockey, we then played a game which we were split into groups and when our coach had called a number we had to go into groups of the number our coach called. When the ball went out another group had to go. Unfortunately my team lost, but at least we had fun.  

Silver CARE Confidence Award - Teach a Junior To Play a Simple Game

Today, I was at wet day in room 6. I was in the room with Zeba. We decided to teach the year 1's or 0's to play a simple game. The game we choose was Simon says. Some of the juniors knew the game but most didn't. It was really fun and interesting.

Speech Marks

Today for writing, my group created a DLO on speech marks and how they work. I used Prezi to create my DLO. We had to write down some said synonyms, a video on dialogue, why we use them in our writing and many more. 

Jean Batten Time line

 

 This week for Inquiry, I have been focusing on Jean Batten. My task today was to make a time line based on Jean Battens life. For this task I choose to use popplet to make a timeline. If you are interested in using this site click here. 

5 Minutes Of ....

This week we have been re - looking at recounts. To show our understanding we wrote a duet recount using personification, similes, onomatopoeia and many more. But there was a twist to writing this recount, we had to pair up with a partner and write one sentence each. I buddied up with Nazella and we collaborated really well. I thought this would be hard because we wouldn't know each others ideas. We planned this using TREE ( Title, Reveal, Events, Ending). Using this picture prompt we had to come up with a story before the rescue mission is happened or after this happened. 

Care Awards RESPECT - Aretha Franklin

For my care award, respect, I choose to Research Aretha Franklin's song RESPECT. I then made a DLO based on why Aretha Franklin made the song RESPECT. On the DLO above it has an image of Aretha Franklin singing her song. This was very interesting listening to her song while I watched her dance / sing. 

StoryBoard That Comic - Godwits

This week, was our last session with Mrs Anderson on Godwits. The uear 7's were asked to make a StoryBoard That Comic to list 3 facts about the Godwits. I digitally story told  where the godwits migrate from New Zealand, How much weight they lose after their migration and the hazards they face while migrating over Korea and China. We enjoyed making our StoryBoard comic and had a great time helping each other. 

Cyber Smart - Quality Blog Comments

 

Today we were trialing a cyber smart game from a group of kids from the Maniakalani. The Cyber smart game was really effective and it had its own digital dice. You had to press the one of the rectangle shaped links then it took you to a DLO.  It was really fun watching you tube video's and answering questions. 

Paper Planes

Today we had to analyze our measurements for our paper planes. Since we were put into groups of 6 or 7 we had to come up with one design using our plane creations. We then tested our planes and Evelyn's one was the fastest. After we had the competition. Zahn was the fastest thrower. Thomas was the winner since his plane went to furthest to 14.1. Our learning intention was to design and make a paper plane that will fly the furthest.  

Looking At Recounts

Today for writing we were looking back on recounts and the concept of it. We were taking a test on recounts and my score was 9 / 10. We then went to the manaikalani cluster blogs and we tryed to find good recounts as examples. We were aiming for the year 7/ 8 students because we were about the same levels. Goals - Silver Excellence Award

 

 This is my Silver Excellence Award task. I had to write 3 goals I achieved in the end of term 4. I completed all of them. This was a fun task because I got to decorate the drawing.

Paper Plane - Inquiry math

On Thursday we were making prototypes of streamline paper planes. We were given instructions from our teacher Mrs Anderson, but she wasn't allowed to talk so she presented on a google slide DLO. The image above Zeba and I were following a video clip to create the perfect paper plane. We found out if we did one mistake we could effect the paper plane. Zeba, June, Evelyn, Zahn, Eric and I worked collaboratively during the activity and we were helping each other out. We were collaborating together to find out sources of information. We found that the best one was to watch youtube videos. Once we created our paper planes, we then went outside to test them. This was really fun as we got to explore think about the way the wind was going. We had our first attempt and the plane kept on turning around. The paper plane kept turning so we found out what June did to her's. June had added weight to hers and this helped our plane to go further and higher. 

Godwits - Inquiry flight

For the last couple of weeks we were learning about Godwits. Our topic this term is flight. We were learning about the Bar Tailed Godwits and there migration. We first were put into groups of 3 or 4. We then had to find information using the keywords in the questions that we wanted to ask. After we put our information on a digital sketch note. Then we all made a prezi explaining why the godwits take such a big flight. Sylis, Eric, Sa Kae and I made a DLO on Prezi.com explaining why Godwits migrate such a long distance. We all worked collaboratively together and had lots of fun learning about Godwits / Kuaka.

Wright Brothers - Facts Sheet

Today for reading, we made a DLO / facts sheet based on the Wright brothers. The Wright brothers are known by being the first to fly. I collaborated with Sajiha to create this facts sheet. I know many things about the Wright brothers like, they were the first ones to achieve controlled flight. 

Wright Brothers - Main Idea

Today for Reading, we read a Scaffold text based on the Wright Brothers. We first read a website with facts about the Wright Brothers. We then created a Google Drawing with 3 detailed answers to back up our main idea. Our main Idea was that the Wright Brothers were the first people to achieve controlled flight.

Touch Rugby

Today we had our second session of touch rugby. We played lots of games which involved skills we need to use if we ever played a game of touch rugby. Our rugby coach's name was Trevor and he helped us with the skills we need to learn. We first had a warm up running across the court and had to do some of the running skills. We then slit into groups and had a practice of passing the rugby ball. This was a really fun session and I can't wait for next week. 

Octopus

This week, we have been creating a mini inquiry. We used a site called Random Student Generater to pick our topic name. We then decided on a topic with that letter that was chosen. My letter was o and I decided to go with the topic octopuses. we have to come up with 3 questions about your topic and add the diet, habitat, appearance and predators. This was a really fun mini inquiry and hope to do it again.  

De/hydration - Why It Is important to drink water?

This is a google drawing Nazella and I created for Hydration. We have written down why it is important to drink water for the pupils of Panmure Bridge School. We have listed what the meaning of hydration and dehydration.

These are the steps on how to narrow a search and, the trick was to use key words. The more key words you used the better results you get. This is an example on how to find the information you want to get by using key words only. 3D Sketching

Today at tech we have been learning how to draw 3D shaped with Miss Ferguson. I have taken pictures on how the drawing looked like and turned out for me. We have been learning about oblique shaped, isometric shaped and point perspective. We were rendering 3 tones and coloring in the 3D shapes. This has been really fun and I can't wait for next week. 

How Do Birds Fly?

Have you every wondered by birds can fly? Well I have, I made a DLO on the birds body and what helps them with their flight. Birds have different features on them like, having strong wing muscles and hollow bones. This helps them with their flight. Our inquiry topic this term is flight. We are learning about Godwits and other birds that fly. I am looking forward to leaning more about flight and the Godwits. 

Read Theory - Read 20

This term we are doing read 20. Read 20 is 20 minutes of silent reading. We use a site called Read Theory. It helps us with our reading and to understand the main idea, and how to answer correctly. After we read the text we have to answer questions, we have 4 options to choose from. We look for the key words in the text until we find our answer. Read Theory really helps us with our reading and improvement.

Flight For Feet - Inspector Gadget 

This week for reading we have been practicing test taking strategies. We have been going over an Inspector Gadget Review which will help us with our tests. Our test taking strategies were to read the instructions that were given, look at the questions, read every word, find answers in the text, eliminate the wrong answers and to choose the best answer.  

Godwit/Kuaka Popplet

This term our inquiry focus was on the Bar tailed Godwit. In Maori it is known as the Kuaka. All the Yr 7's have created a popplet together that had information about the appearance, habitat, migration diet and the preys of the Godwit. We added pictures and videos to give a clear picture of the Godwits. Something I learned was that Godwits never never stop during their migration. We are looking forward to learn more about the Godwit. 

Maths Equations

This week for maths we have been practicing maths problems. Mia and I worked collaboratively together with this activity. We have been solving multiplication problems in everyday contexts. We were doing this because we have our Maths Tests coming up next week.

Cyber Smart

Today the year 8's went off to the library to meet Mrs Ogilvie about cyber smart. The year 7's stayed in LS2 while the year 8's were learning. After the year 8's came back they taught us about cyber smart. They showed us a website called Kids InfoBits. It had information about multiple of things and which category you would choose. There was info for primary, intermediate and secondary. There was also images, clips and voice recording. 

Rhythm Interactive Sessions Visit

Today we had a special visit/session from Rhythm Interactive. This session is our second time in these 2 years. The 2 visitors who held and ran the program were Lucy and Johnny. They travel all around the world and New Zealand to teach kids. We learnt how to play beats and different rhythms on the Djembe drum. In the whole session they did not talk and only used actions. In there saying, they said that actions are louder that words. This was a really fun session since, we worked together and had lots of fun. 

Make dinner for your whole family - Silver Respect Award

For this silver respect task I had to make dinner for my whole family. I cooked roasted vegetables. I added seasoning, kumara, potato's, carrots, broccoli and many more. My mum helped me chop up the vegetables but I did the rest. My family's opinion was that, it was over cooked and I added to much seasoning. This task was fun and enjoyable. 

Leadership

Today the year 7 pupils were talking about leadership, since we will be leaders next year we had to get a reminder of leadership qualities. We listed some qualities leaders should have in the following year. We also talked about role models and talked about some of them. We then made a tagul.com  using words we listed and some role models we look forward to. 

Quick Writes

Today for writing we had to write story prompts. We had to choose from a list of pictures to write about. We created a 6 sentence story using giving criteria. We had to start with once upon a time and try to be creative. This was really fun because we used our imagination. 

Recalling My Times Tables

Today LS2 played a learning math game called Quiz.iz. This is an educational where anyone can play/participate. We we recalling our 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 times tables and had to beat 20 seconds. We had a race against everyone and for the first game I came 14th. We then had a game against Mrs Anderson. We tried our hardest to beat her but she came 4. Quiz.iz really helped me improve and it was really fun.
